Who poisoned billionaire playboy and notorious womanizer Theodore Van Brunt Ormsby?
Liz Rooney, a feisty young woman with a passion for following sensational murder cases, believes the killer is one of Ormsby's many cast-off paramours. Her own prime suspect is a beautiful, unidentified female seen entering his penthouse elevator the day before his body was found. But the police arrest Ormsby's faithful old houseman, Judson, because he had the opportunity and was left a sizeable bequest in Ormsby's will.
Outraged, and determined to help Judson, Liz does her own investigating. She finds herself on the edge of danger with the murderer as well as the local homicide detective as she uncovers a bizarre situation.
