When the spy George Blake escapes from Wormwood Scrubs prison, it transpires that he was helped by a prolific jail-breaking gang. Bernard Newman and Papa Pontivy must summon all their wits to catch this group, on a quest that leads them to encounter a series of other convicts and their associates. The pair must navigate a gold robbery, mysterious codified messages and an unusual case of mistaken identity in a mission that even takes Newman all the way to Berlin in pursuit of the criminals.

In one of his most challenging cases, Pontivy and Newman, along with many of their side-kicks including George and Honorine, must come dangerously close to these criminals in their quest to catch the gang.
