In this portion of her diary, which she called "Journal of a Wife," Anais Nin records the early phase of her marriage and of her years in Paris, where her husband's banking job took them at the end of 1924. There, she confronted her estranged father and experienced some of the most challenging adjustments of her life: to the demands of marriage, to her husband's profession, and to Paris itself, which she found oppressive and immoral. By mid-1927, however, Anais Nin had grown intellectually, shed her puritanism, and began to succumb to the city of her childhood dreams.
