Fire sears the hearts of four young people who are the only hope for their tribe. Lightning sparks a terrible fire that destroys half a Cheyenne village. Searching for children and horses feared lost in the blaze are warrior Grey Bear and Lone Hawk. While Lone Hawk focuses on saving the Cheyenne, Grey Bear's hot temper leads to assault, death and exile, and shatters the hearts of two of the tribe's maidens. They and all the Cheyenne must struggle not just to survive but to find justice in a harsh world.
