In Search of Evil

(The fifth book in the Silent Witness series)
(2003)
A novel by

Nigel McCrery

The fifth SILENT WITNESS novel from the creator of the hugely successful TV series starring Amanda Burton

When the body of Violet Thorpe is discovered buried beneath the floor of her own cellar, Professor Sam Ryan is called to the scene of what seems to be a fairly run-of-the-mill murder case. Sam quickly establishes that the elderly widow had been poisoned and has been dead for a little over a year. However, the investigation takes a peculiar twist when it is established that the victim had been keeping in regular contact with an old friend throughout the past year, having sent her a postcard from Brighton only a month before. When Sam and DS Sharman visit the address in Brighton, they find themselves on a bizarre trail of a killer, who appears to be travelling the country in search of lonely old ladies, befriending and then killing them before assuming their identities and clearing out their bank accounts. Sam finds herself in a race against time before the killer strikes again.
