Born in Stoke-on-Trent and educated in Sandbach, Cheshire, Nigel Macbeth taught for seventeen years in the Potteries before moving abroad to teach children of British Forces personnel in Germany and Gibraltar. He retired in 2004 after thirty years teaching. He has been married to Trish for thirty two years. They have one daughter, Melissa.
