A bad space jump flings Longknife and Rodrigo's starship light-years away from home, and they find a planet inhabited by the descendants of a ship's crew lost 300 years earlier. As acting ambassador, Longknife is eager to welcome the planet's inhabitants back into the fold of humanity.
