Miles' latest Alan Saxon novel is the sixth in a series that never quite lives up to its promise. This time touring pro and golf-course designer Saxon journeys to Hawaii to attend the secret wedding of a fellow golfer. It quickly becomes clear that someone doesn't want the wedding to happen and is willing to kill to stop it. Saxon, thrust into the role of key witness and possible suspect, naturally tries his hand at investigation. The crime plot, involving a powerful Honolulu family, unwinds effectively, but the golf is mainly in the background, and Miles, who also writes historical mysteries as Edward Marston, continues to suffer from clunky dialogue. Still, he keeps the narrative moving well enough to keep our minds off most of the flaws. Bill Ott
