Kate Messner grew up in Medina, a small town in Western New York. She graduated from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Communication with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and worked as a television news producer and reporter in Syracuse, NY and then Burlington, VT, before going back to school to get a teaching degree.
