Journalist Jane Whitcomb is rich, beautiful and adored by a banker, Charles Lovell. She can't love him but together they live the opulent life of the 1930s rich. When the owner of the "Daily Word" asks Jane to cover the Civil War in Spain, she feels she must go, despite Charles's protests.
