This novel is set in two time frames the 1980's and 1930's Japan. It revolves around the assassination of several members of the japanese government by a group of fiercely nationalistic army officers who believed that their ruler was being pushed towards a decadent liberalism. The novel throws light on a period in the development of modern Japan little understood in the West.
