Without warning, the President of the United States is struck blind. At the same time, high above the Rockies, the pilot and crew of a 747 suddenly find that they have lost their sight. Hundreds and then thousands of people all across America are blinded, causing dozens of passenger airplanes to crash into built-up areas, scores of catastrophic highway pile-ups, and countless minor tragedies. Communications fail, TV screens go blank and American civilization is taken back two hundred years overnight. Self-styled mystic Harry Erskine is telling the fortunes of gullible old ladies in Miami when his friend Amelia Crusoe, a genuine psychic, calls on him to help her sister, who has also been blinded. Together they discover that the Algonquin medicine man Misquamacus has come back to life to seek a final devastating revenge against the white man who massacred his people, and tried to eradicate their religions and their culture forever. Only Harry and Amelia know that Misquamacus, and his band of resurrected Native American shamans and terrifying Eye Killers from ancient Zuni legend, are responsible for the chaos - but the odds of beating Misquamacus are suicidal indeed.
