The third Megarry crime novel. An old man and his son are fishing in Piper's Gut, a narrow inlet of sea near Dublin, when they haul in a human head, caught in their nets, which is established as that of a woman. Megarry, a retired RUC man, is soon on the case, this time with a female assistant.
