March 1945. The Allies have crossed the Rhine to push deeper into the Fatherland. The advance into the Reich by US, Free French, and British troops and armor, named Operation Undertone, is gathering pace.

The route to Cologne is reported clear of enemy formations, yet an armored reconnaissance by US M4 Sherman tanks is almost wiped out when it unexpectedly runs into enemy artillery, dug into deep underground emplacements. Aircraft of the USAF and RAF launch a series of punishing attacks and the army commanders declare the way ahead is clear.

They give the go-ahead for the advance to continue, but Lieutenant Jack Murphy is unconvinced. On a recent mission into enemy territory, his platoon witnessed the destruction of the Shermans from a distance. They spotted the enemy gun positions, and he is dubious the air attacks have taken out the enemy artillery. They are still there, well hidden, waiting for Allied troops and armor to fall into their ambush. His battalion commander disagrees.

Murphy is ordered to await further orders. To hold his position in readiness for the main advance. Yet he is convinced that advance will run into a storm of enemy fire. He has two choices. To obey orders, and watch men die. Or find the enemy and destroy them. No choice at all. He is a Ranger.

A full-length novel by the bestselling author of many Spec Ops books. These include the popular Grant’s War series, SEAL Team Bravo, Heroes of Afghanistan, Raider, Echo Six, and Devil's Guard titles.
