Philadelphia, June 1776: America is about to be born.

Patsy Black and her best friend Barbara Layman know they've got to help the colonies gain their freedom. But what can two girls do? Plenty. When the blacksmith's shop goes up in a roaring blaze, Patsy and Barbara find out that someone set the fire on purpose. But who? Maybe it was the red-haired stranger who just rode into town. He could even be a spy for the British! There's one way to find out: search his room above the Black family tavern. But are the girls brave enough to do it? And what happens if they get caught?
