Prepare to be surprised.

In a late-night call, Jonathan Keyes discovers he is the sole heir to the estate of a reclusive uncle he didn't know he had, an uncle who died under mysterious circumstances in a savage, dreadful way. Among the assets Jonathan suddenly acquires is a mansion with antebellum roots, sitting on two hundred and twelve acres, a "painted lady" of thirty-five rooms filled with precious antiques and depictions of scenes from the Old Testament . . . and secrets. At the back of the estate lies a neglected cemetery dating to the early eighteen hundreds, a graveyard filled with the long-decayed remains of slaves, some of whom had been shot as the entire house had burned down and others who had died in the fire. When Jonathan and his wife Judith and their son, Buck, almost eleven, and two daughters, Maddie, thirteen, and Lirlu, three, take possession of the manor, little do they know what they are getting into, for the mansion itself seems possessed, and her name is Jezebel.
