Perhaps Tamar was too young when she fell in love with Ross Falcon, master
of Falcon's Head, in her Irish village home.
At any rate, it all ended in disaster, with Tamar's heart broken, her life
in ruins- and Ross married to someone else. In despair, a suddenly grown-up
Tamar ran away to London, built a new life for herself and told herself she
was happy again.
Now she was back in Falcon's Wherry; Ross had never left, and it did not
take Tamar long to realize that her feelings for him were as deep as ever.
But all he felt for her was hatred, Whet was the point of staying, when it
was clear that too much had happened for either to turn back the clock?
