The English title of Patapoufset Filifer (1930) by the celebrated French biographer and novelist Maurois. The brothers Edmund and Terry (one fat and the other thin) discover 2 countries beneath the earths surface. One is occupied by the Thinifers who go without lunch and work 6 days a week, whilst the Fattypuffs are obese and lazy and only eat and sleep. The 2 nations are always in conflict until the invading army and the natives reach an understanding and the races become united.
