Alec is a graduate of the University of Chicago and Columbia University's MFA writing program. In recent years, he has interviewed the novelists Jonathan Franzen, Jonathan Lethem, Jonathan Safran-Foer, Michael Chabon, Michael Cunningham, Rick Moody, Richard Price, and Richard Powers, as well as the band Sparklehorse and the former president, George W. Bush.
