Created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Dr. Strange was an usually departure from the norm in superhero characters. With its lure of mysticism and spirituality, Dr. Strange soon developed an enthusiastic cult following (including writer Ken Kesey) by journeying into strange worlds and other dimensions.
