An Inevitable Fatality

(1978)
A novel by

Mel Chapman was a successful young business consultant, accustomed to operating smoothly and independently in a world of mergers, takeovers, rationalization and dog eating dog. He was also accustomed to the unexpected. But although he anticipated some boardroom opposition to his proposals when he was hired by QUARTA to advise them on the acquisition of a new television development technology, he hadn't expected the artificially created snags that soon occurred. Nor that his former girl-friend would be a member of the QUARTA board by virtue of having married the chairman as his second wife.

And Chapman certainly hadn't expected the convenient, ostensibly natural death of the chairman, and the disappearance of another director who left only bloodstains behind. Least of all did he expect that the financial attacks on QUARTA and an advanced technological development would prove to have their roots deep in the past, and that he himself would have to play detective if his proposals were to be carried through.

Roy Lewis's An Inevitable Fatality excellent crime novel gives an intriguing and knowledgeable glimpse into the world of big business and the passions that can reign behind impersonal corporate facades.
