'I will be back, never forget it not for a second...' The islands of Orkney, at once bright and windswept, with their crashing seas and strange Viking customs, are far away from the Civil War which grips England and Scotland in a vice of terror. Orkney is to be a spring board for a new invasion and Charles II sends kinsman and ill fated envoy Drummond to rally support. There, amongst the wild heather, he meets the fair and spirited Helen, a passionate horsewoman with the blood of the Stewarts in her veins. She is betrothed to an islander, but Drummond knows she can bring him peace and happiness. But ahead lies invasion, weary march and perhaps a bloody death on the soiled and corpse ridden battlefield.
