John Lutz recommends
Gray Matter (1996) (P. J. Gray, book 1) Shirley Kennett "Kennett is a writer of rare skill, and GRAY MATTER is a deftly plotted novel bristling with suspense. Its characters are real and contemporary, and its premise is gripping and unique. Not since RED DRAGON has a more menacing serial killer roamed metropolitan St. Louis. A rip-roaring good read." | Shoot! (1997) Jay Cronley "Shoot! is one of the funniest books to come along in years - a wonderfully entertaining novel that allows the reader to share Cronley's unique and incisive take on the world. Read!" | Bad Karma (1997) (Trey Campbell, book 1) Andrew Harper "A thriller that grabs and persists like a nightmare. Quite a ride." |
Act of Betrayal (2000) (P. J. Gray, book 4) Morgan Avery (Shirley Kennett) "Let's see more of PJ Gray!" | Doc in a Box (2000) (Francesca Vierling, book 4) Elaine Viets "Nobody knows St. Louis better than Elaine Viets . . .I'm looking forward to reading more about Francesca Vierling. Her creator has the touch." | A Forever Death (2001) (Emerson Ward, book 4) Michael W Sherer "Sherer is a top-notch talent..." |
Kill Time (2007) T J MacGregor "Plenty of suspense." | President Lincoln's Spy (2008) (Fitz Dunaway, book 1) Steven Wilson "The reader can taste the grit and feel the excitement and expectations of a pivotal time in American history. In President Lincoln's Spy, Wilson has given us a time machine." | Don't Ever Tell (2008) Brandon Massey "The talented Mr. Massey has the rare knack of grabbing the reader early and not letting go. In this relentlessly gripping novel the hold only gets tighter as the pages turn. Massey knows how to ratchet up the suspense. Tell everyone that DON'T EVER TELL is a crackling good thriller." |
Silent Screams (2009) (Silent, book 1) C E Lawrence "Pulse racing, compelling, first-rate." | The Sculptor (2009) (Sam Markham, book 1) Gregory Funaro "Funaro provides clever plotting and plenty of suspense." | The Dead Detective (2010) William Heffernan "William Heffernan is one of the finest craftsmen in mystery fiction. The publication of a new Heffernan novel is an event worth cheering, and The Dead Detective is no exception. A mystery treat. A literary treat." |
