English translation of Cheri-Bibi et Cecily, published in America under the title Missing Men. Leroux, in his day considered the "foremost of the modern French writers of detective fiction" (Willard Huntington Wright, The Great Detective Stories), is best known today for his mystery thriller The Phantom of the Opera, the basis for Andrew Lloyd Webbers hugely successful staged musical and several screen adaptations.
