The trial of Steinie Morrison was, in its day, a cause celebre, and has been the subject of controversy ever since. Court room proceedings were enlivened by the notable eccentricity of counsel, and the judge, in his summing-up showed his belief that there was insufficient evidence for a conviction. But the jury found Morrison guilty of the gruesome murder of Leon Beron on Clapham Common on New Year's Day 1911. The author proves that the conviction had more to do with public opinion than evidence.
