USA flag (b.1944)

Dicks first ten years in his home town of New Orleans, Louisiana have been and will remain shrouded in mystery. His first recorded activity occurred during his eleventh year, when, in the course of his sixth grade studies at Holy Name of Jesus grammar school, he entered and won a citywide essay contest sponsored by a local FM classical music radio station.

The subject of the essay was Richard Strausss Till Eulenspiegels Merry Pranks, a symphonic poem about the wacky adventures of a 14th Century Ashton Kutcher. As a result of the win, a photo of Dick appeared in the New Orleans Times Picayune -- on the comic strip page, but IN the paper -- and he was presented with a Merry Pranks album.

Pignon Scorbion & the Barbershop Detectives (2022)
(Pignon Scorbion, book 1)
Rick Bleiweiss
"Bleiweiss's Pignon Scorbion, the new (circa 1910) chief police inspector of the British hamlet of Haxshire, is a splendidly unique addition to the list of entertainingly eccentric investigators who use brain over brawn. With a deductive prowess and penchant for precise couture that are more than a match for his contemporary Hercule Poirot, Scorbion prefers to solve his mysteries (here ranging from proof of parenthood to pig theft to bloody murder) in a barbershop, assisted by a young newshawk (his Watson), a trio of amusing tonsorial artists, and a bookseller as bright as she is beautiful. Good company. Good fun."

Dark Men (2011)
(Silver Bear Thriller, book 3)
Derek Haas
"Columbus is a hit man intriguing enough to take his place beside those created by Graham Greene and Lawrence Block. Distinguished by the poetry of violence."

Star Witness (1997)
(Willa Jansson, book 6)
Lia Matera
"Matera knows her way around a courtroom, and she is just as adept at crafting an unpredictable tale."
