While in the ninth grade, I was tormented by two bullies every morning at my locker. They called me names, pushed me around, and made my life a living hell. During that year I must've dreamed up 100 different ways to get even with them. Reading Vengeance Fantastic, a surprisingly enthralling collection of short stories edited by Denise Little, brought all those intense emotions back to life. Although all of the 17 tales focus on revenge -- and the price to be paid for it -- the subject matter runs the gamut from Viking invaders to serial killer roommates to magical cats to disillusioned housewives.

Contributing authors include Mickey Zucker Reichert, Michelle West, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, Laura Resnick, P N Elrod, Jody Lynn Nye, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, and Kristine Kathryn Rusch.

It is rare for me to be so impressed by an anthology that I actually push the book onto my friends. Vengeance Fantastic is such a collection -- completely and utterly satisfying. Paul Goat Allen
