It is only a few decades into the future. Humanity's ability to conceive children has been severely reduced by pollution and disease. Kids are scarce and desirable, adoption is almost impossible. Three people are entangled in a life-threatening web. A teenaged girl sees something shocking and illegal, but is disciplined and told she is a liar. She goes to an elderly doctor, the only one who suspects she might be telling the truth. And a man wakes up one morning calmed by a drug that helps edit unpleasant memories--but with his testicles gone.
