Toasting Eros

(2002)
A novel by

Louise Kean

TOASTING EROS is a fast, funny and astonishingly wise debut novel about modern life and love, as Eve and Henry's romantic holiday in Las Vegas goes horribly wrong. What appealed to me when I first read it was its freshness and accessibility, and the author's clever, clear-sighted and down-to-earth take on the whole subject of True Love and that old 'meaning of life' thing.

The moment TOASTING EROS was submitted to us and people started to read it here, I was deluged with e-mails from young women around the building saying things like 'Ohmigod, I've been there' (about, would you believe, waking up in a McDonalds car park with a handsome stranger - I won't name and shame that particular reader) and 'you must, must publish this book'. So we did. (Which isn't to say that it's just for women - it's for anyone who's ever been in love, been to Las Vegas, played crazy golf, been to a Barry Manilow concert or had a few too many drinks, for a start. And, for the guys, the hapless Henry gets to tell his side of the story, too...)
