Set at the time of the French Revolution, this story follows the de Charney family as they escape from Paris to their Welford cousins in Sussex. As Marianne Welford quarrels with her fiance, her sister Lucy finds herself attracted to Edouard de Charney. Many complications and adventures arise before the two families can finally settle down to their new lives.
