"Markul the Best and Highest rose in sharptoothed towers eternally enmeshed in mist . . ."
So begins WYSARD, a tale of love and magic. Ryel Mirai, young lord adept of the wysard-citadel Markul, seeks to learn the reasons behind the sudden death of Edris, his kinsman and instructor in the Art. His quest embroils him in battle with the malignant sorcerer Dagar, whose spirit-essence is imprisoned in the Void, a place between death and life. Dagar seeks a long-lost spell that will not only free him from the Void, but enable him to enslave Ryel's bodily form to return to the world and wreak terrible harm. Ryel must discover the spell first, not only to destroy Dagar forever but to return Edris to life. Sworn to thwart Ryel's attempt is Dagar's henchman Lord Michael Essern, the greatest wysard of Markul's rival citadel, Elecambron. As Ryel struggles against the dangers threatening himself and the world, he discovers that he has powerful allies in the Art, and is both emboldened and tormented by the promise that he may indeed have all that he wishes for--although perhaps not as he wished it.
WYSARD is fantasy at its highest and most heartfelt. You won't find any dragons or elves here, but you will learn, as one of the book's characters puts it, that "the struggle of heart against mind, of self against world, is eternal war for some; and in such struggles a man will render up his life for reasons far beyond love or hate." But WYSARD is a tale of adventure too, and Ryel's quest soon becomes a journey not only of the spirit, but of the flesh as well, in all its passionate variety.
