When the traffic police call the local police station, who call CID, who call out DI Brock to attend the scene of a traffic accident, the inspector is none too pleased to be forced to respond when he doesn't see how it's any of his business. But then it turns out the woman's body discovered in the ditch alongside the crashed car was not involved in the accident, but had been there for some time. What's more, the woman was naked and covered in the vicious marks of a whip. Unpleasant as it might be, this is very definitely Brock's business.
