It must be said that this experimental novel is also part memoir. Yoel Hoffmann's funny and utterly unique story is a triumphant look backward and inward from his escape from the Holocaust to his time in an orphanage, youth, two marriages, fatherhood, and his studies in Japanese Buddhism.
