When the body of a beautiful rich widow is pulled from the river, Roper and his team soon establish that the young, recently widowed Hannah Blezard had drowned in her own swimming pool and not in the sea. When a second, apparently unconnected, murder occurs, Roper's keen eye is able to see deeper into the morass of human motivation to spot a grotesque picture of greed and the fine line between innocence and guilt.
