A novel by

Detective Sergeant Fenlon suspects organised crime in the northern industrial city of Beckford. Hands full with a murder hunt he asks old friend John Goss, an astute private investigator, if he can confirm his suspicions. Goss uncovers crime on an alarming scale - vice, drugs, protection, illegal immigration - but can prove nothing. He makes the fatal mistake of joining the syndicate to expose it. Goss and his lover Emily are swept into a glamorous wealthy existence of fine houses and big cars all based on the violently effective criminal methods of one brilliant overwhelming man. When Goss finally faces that man he knows there can only be one way out. That decision leads to a climax as shocking as it is unexpected.
