William Thompson was famous for clearing out rustlers from the range, so they summoned him to Oklahoma to clean up the No Man's Land of the Panhandle. He was warned to stay on the right side of the law in carrying out his duties - hard to do in the deadly territory that was the hide-out for cattle rustlers, horse thieves, and other desperadoes.
