About Kathy Helidoniotis
Kathy was born and grew up in Sydney. As a kid she was "horse mad" - room was crammed with books, toy horses, model horses, poster horses, etc. She started riding at the age of 6 and had a horse of her own by the age of 10, a cheeky bay gelding called Clarrie, who was a source of inspiration in her books. She still loves horses and loves to ride when she gets the chance and owns a gorgeous Appaloosa mare called Georgia.

Kathy Helidoniotis always wanted to be a writer, writing stories from a young age, one of her best was in Year 3 called "Patch", about a hen. She originally trained as a high school teacher of English and History and she still teaches. She also LOVES to read, her next favourite thing to do after riding as a child, as there was never a shortage of great books to read at her place. As a teacher she also enjoyed great books for kids and decided she was going to be a children's author . So she did some creative writing courses and started to write short stories, entering writing competitions and joined a writer's group which was a good way to get feedback.

Her first novel "Totally Horse Mad" was published in 2006, she has also written educational material for the high school market, articles for primary school children and books for the very young children.

Kathy lives with her husband and three children, chooks, two rabbits and a goldfish. She cannot spend a single day without writing as it's so rewarding!
