Hallelujah Brown, illegitimate child of a RSM and a NAAFI manageress, is brought up in the Army and ends up as an officer in Intelligence. Seconded to small British military outpost in an African state she is suddenly thrown into defending the post against the local army when the ageing commanding officer is relieved of his command.
