Rawhiders from Texas Tom Gillette rode carefully though the black night. At his back came a handful of tough Texans. Ahead were the gunhawks hired to drive Gillette off the free Dakota range. Suddenly Tom stopped, reaching for his .45. "Guns out, boys!" he roared. "Let's go!" A challenge lashed back at them. "Damn the Texans Let 'em have it!" Gillette's men raced up the arroyo and then the smashing roar of twenty guns tore the silence to shreds. They were a thousand miles from San Antone-but this was just like home!
