This Northwest Coast classic is a novel based on the preceeding 150 years of Haida Amerindian history and the culture's near destruction. The Haida are a tribe of the Pacific Northwest and the period portrayed in this novel tells of their decline in number and power beginning in 1775 with the arrival of the first Europeans. At the same time, the story is about the endurance of their richly art-centered culture. Illustrated with black and white drawings based on Haida art.
