Robert Russell Garwood was a 19 year-old Marine private with 12 days left on his tour of duty in Vietnam when he was wounded and captured by the Viet Cong. Fourteen years later he returned to the United States, shoeless and chattering in Vietnamese, to face a celebrated court-martial for desertion.
