When a Broadway agent sells a boxing kangaroo act to a showman who rang up for a knife thrower, something really gets started. The kangaroo is a male called Matilda who accidently tangles with a middleweight boxing king incognito. The affray is reported with mock seriousness by Duke Parkhurst, journalist, who claims that Matilda has technically become World Champion. Thereafter Bimmie the agent, Billy Baker The Bermondsey Kid who owns Matilda, Duke and a variety of rascals, scoundrels and reprobates all get involved. Even the Mafia tries to get a slice of the action. Paul Gallico has written an ingenious and hilarious entertainment which is a champion in the fiction contest.
