For Superintendent John Lambert, a round of golf is the perfect diversion, especially when he's beating, and offering patronizing tips to, his sergeant, Bert Hook. Hook isn't having much fun, but when he mishits a ball horribly, he comes across something far, far more horrible - in a ditch. The young woman lying there, it turns out, was not only a drugs dealer, but she was on the game too. And this, naturally, left her vulnerable to the animosity of some of society's darkest and most secretive characters. For one thing, Kate Warton had just decided to give up dealing and the powers that be were not amused. Just how many shots is it going to take these hardnosed detectives to get out of that ditch?
