In 1886 Cornwall, a portrait is painted of Claira, the wife of a farmer. In the painting, Claira basks in a sunset, violin in hand. In 1986 Claire, a painter, and her family settle in the farmhouse where Claira once lived. Claire makes two discoveries that change her as a woman and a painter.
