And so you paid five dollars for that package and you don't even know what's in it?" Della Street said in exasperation. "Why?" "Well," Perry Mason answered, "The public administrator was holding an auction and no one bid on this package. So I started the bidding with five dollars, and the next thing I knew I was stuck with it. It's marked: 'Private personal belongings, matter of Estate of Helen Cadmus.'" "Wasn't she the girl who committed suicide by jumping from some millionaire's yacht?" "She was Benjamin Addicks' private secretary. The assumption was that she jumped overboard. But as I remember it the body was never found." The phone rang. Della Street listened for a moment and then said: "The Inquirer has heard about you buying the Cadmus diaries. They want to send a photographer and a reporter and do a human interest story." "Tell them to come on up," Mason said. "I'll pose." That should have been an end to it, but when Benjamin Addicks offered one thousand dollars for that five dollar package, Perry Mason really got interested. And then began perhaps the most bizarre case in his career which ended only when he was trapped by three killers-two human and one a crazed and grinning gorilla!
