The book weighs too heavily at times on complaints about fumbling hospital staffers, contractors failing to make promised additions to the Greenburgs' apartment and country house, etc., but it is touching and frequently very funny.

This book brings to mind Bob Greene's bestseller, Good Morning, Merry Sunshine ( LJ 9/1/84), in that it relates the experience of pregnancy, birth, and infancy from the father's point of view. Greenburg ( How To Avoid Love and Marriage) depends on exaggeration for his humor. His irrational fears, reinforced by bizarre tabloid headlines, are somehow comfortably familiar. On the other hand most people will not relate to conflict with the full-time nanny or difficulty fitting baby equipment into the Porsche. The book is weakened by its arbitrary ending, but probably will appeal to some of Greene's audience. Suzanne Druehl, Little Rock P.L., Ark.
