Library Journal
Told in the first person, this rather weird but amusing tale by the author of Eternal Bliss (Zebra, 1988) and other fantasy novels tells the story of how Fred Fudpucker, once a moderately successful university grantsperson, becomes involved with the McDiddle hamburger chain--a corporate entity that grows so powerful it effectively runs the entire country. Fred eventually assists in McDiddleland's collapse, bringing economic ruin to most of the country but also allowing a small, rebellious region called Harmonia to flourish unimpeded. Although the first chapters of this fantasy/social commentary are a bit difficult to follow (Fred's introductory musings seem paranoid and delusional at best), eventually all is made clear, and the writing never fails to entertain.-- A.M.B.
