The Gospel Makers

(1994)
(Book 11 in the David Webb series)
A novel by

The Revelationists flocking to organize in rural Shillingham are a secretive bunch - the greengrocer, the nanny, the English teacher - anyone could be an unidentified member. Detective Chief Inspector David Webb is instinctively suspicious of the group, so when one of his police officers, Nina Petrie, offers to investigate undercover, he agrees. Is there really something in the coffee and soda the Revvies hand out? Are the videos of their leader really subliminally doctored? And is there a connection between the sect and the wine merchant found murdered in his hotel room? Webb's attention quickly shifts to the discovery of the dead man. Who was he, and who was the mysterious couple he was last seen with? Even after his identity has been established, there appears to be no motive for his murder. Meanwhile, to add to Webb's problems, Petrie shows signs of being seduced by the cult's message.
