Detective Riley Finn works in the Special Cases Unit (SCU) of the Chicago Police Department. SCU investigates and tracks serial criminals of the worst caliber. Like the unit she works in, Riley is a special kind of detective with a unique gift - she can see auras, and evil has an aura like no other.

Riley and Jason return from their honeymoon rejuvenated and excited to begin their new life phase. Newlywed bliss is quickly shattered when a mysterious gift and a series of explosions send them on a wild chase to stop a serial bomber.

Evil is drawn to Riley and it’s not long before the bomber interrupts her life in an extreme and personal fashion to make his demands known. Riley’s survival depends on her gift for seeing and hearing evil, but the bomber’s aura keeps alternating from transparent to violet. She can only hear his thoughts when he’s transparent. For the first time in her career, she’s completely vulnerable and at the mercy of a psychopath.

SCU utilizes every resource available to find the bomber, but they still know very little about him other than he calls himself Beast. With time and clues running out, Riley goes back inside the mind of a young serial killer she put away years earlier. A few more pieces of the puzzle fall into place. With hundreds of lives hanging in the balance Riley knows drastic measures are required. On a wing and a prayer, she risks everything to stop the Beast.
