Erle Stanley Gardner (July 17, 1889 - March 11, 1970) was an American lawyer and author of detective stories who also published under the names A.A. Fair, Kyle Corning, Charles M. Green, Carleton Kendrake, Charles J. Kenny, Les Tillray, and Robert Parr. Gardner was born in Massachusetts and educated at Valparaiso University Indiana. He was admitted to the California bar in 1911. He married Natalie Talbert in 1912 and Agnes Jean Bethell in 1968. His series characters were Perry Mason, Terry Clane, Sheriff Bill Eldon, Doug Selby and Gramps Wiggins.
